Ebola In The Skies? How The Virus Made It To West Africa
The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is the most explosive in history. One reason the virus spread so fast is that West Africa was blindsided. Ebola had never erupted in people anywhere close to West Africa before.
The type of Ebola causing the outbreak — called Zaire — is the deadliest strain. Until this year, it had been seen only in Central Africa, about 2,500 miles away. That’s about the distance between Boston and San Francisco.
So how did it spread across this giant swath of land without anybody noticing?
To answer that, ecologist Peter Walsh says we need to look at the history of Ebola Zaire.
Back in the summer of 1976, a young Zairian doctor named Ngoy Mushola traveled to a rural village in what is today the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He heard people were dying of a strange disease, near the shores of the Ebola River. They had fevers, stomachaches and rashes. Some had internal bleeding.
"What’s so nasty about it is that it effectively melts your blood vessels," says Walsh, who’s at the University of Cambridge.

He called on parents to take responsibility for their sons’ actions, saying parents must teach their sons the difference between right and wrong.
"When we hear about these rapes our heads hang in shame," Mr Modi said.
"Young girls are always asked so many questions by their parents, like ‘where are you going?’. But do parents dare to ask their sons where they are going?" he asked.
“Those who commit rape are also someone’s sons. It’s the responsibility of the parents to stop them before they take the wrong path,” he added.

Okay, say what you want about him, but this is a big deal. This is Prime Minister Modi’s first Independence Day address since being elected. And instead of using this time to talk about Pakistan, like every other Independence Day speech in the past, he stood up there and talked about INDIA’s need for improvement. And amongst his topics, he talked about rape.
And he didn’t describe it as “accidental” or “boys making mistakes”, and he didn’t state that women need to “dress more dignified”, all of which have been said by other Indian politicians. For once, we’re hearing someone put the blame on the rapist, and actually calling out parents to raise their sons properly. Like everyone else, I’m still hoping Modi isn’t another PM who is all talk.

he has a direct role in gujarat riots where thousands of muslim women were raped. More than a thousand people (mostly Muslim) including children and women were murdered. Mobs hunted down muslim communities to spray petrol on them and set them and their houses on fire. His government had direct involvement  but only 2 ministers were tried and arrested. Besides supporting Hindutva groups, his party’s manifesto includes banning religious conversions. BJP has a history of treating minorities, especially Muslims, Dalits and Christians as sub-humans. Merely acknowledging rapes in India is worth a praise?
"big deal" my ass

More than 150 men, women and children squeezed into tiny wooden boxes opposite Parliament in London this morning to put pressure on the Government to help lift Israel’s illegal blockade on Gaza.
The protest sought to show the conditions Palestinians are and have been living in for 7 years. Israel openly admits targeting the civilians of Gaza with collective punishment - (illegal under international law) by - among other ways - putting them on a “diet”.
